My Thoughts About Teaching

Please view this information as my personal teaching philosophy -

For the last twelve years my role as an educator has been to challenge students to understand the fundamentals of the business discipline and to know how to apply them to situations they will encounter in the workplace.  This task has required my role to be a facilitator of information and concepts in the field of marketing and management; a motivator who encourages students to step out of their comfort zone and participate in classroom discussions; and an advisor and mentor who strives to see them succeed in their professional, civic, and social endeavors.

My classroom provides a variety of learning experiences including lecture, discussion, video and live presentations, as well as opportunities for the students to learn from group projects and presentations.  I also bring my professional experience in marketing, management, fund raising, and civic involvement to the classroom so that the students can gain an appreciation of real world endeavors and why they need to understand the fundamentals of marketing as they apply to the business discipline.  My role as an accreditation site evaluator affords me the opportunity to see what other institutions are doing to improve learning outcomes. Much of this information can be of benefit to keep my students current in the discipline and help them to be competitive after they move on in their career.

As an educator I have been presented with the opportunity to develop courses that challenge the student and leave them well equipped for a career in marketing. My goal is to help the student bridge the gap between theory and practice, with a focus on the commitment to provide them with a curriculum that is current in the dynamic global business environment.
